VIC's Revenge Update

Update on the VIC-20 VIC chip replacement:

After many moons of pulling my hair out trying to devise two sets of resistor ladders to combine luminance and chroma signals into a composite signal in a way that doesn’t result in a PCB half the size of a VIC-20 itself, I’m punting to a chip for this for now. It’s better to get it working really well and then try (maybe) to make it cheaper later.

This dramatically simplifies the PCB design, but the tradeoff is that this chip costs $17 retail. Oh well. I was inches from saying, “Forget it, it’ll just have to be VGA.”

They don’t make this one in a DIP package to slot into perf board before PCBs are made, so an adapter board it is.
