Vim was worth it

Over the last 30 years or so, Vim has saved me thousands of hours. There was a learning curve, but those 15 hours (or however long it was) paid off over the long term.

Does this mean you must use Vim key methods to be “productive”?

Of course not.

Stop seeing everything as a tribal or religious war. (Unless you prefer Spectrum to Commodore. That’s just crazy talk.)

These are tools. That’s all they are. Use the tools that work for you.
