Game of life

A little Thursday lunch break fun… I was reading a great (long) article by Stephen Wolfram last night on 50 years of Conway’s Game of Life. I decided to dust off some of my attempts at making an implementation I’m proud of and took a crack at an ncurses version in C.

First 15 seconds: Random
Next 15 seconds: Glider
Following 15 seconds: Glider Gun

I’m happy with the way this came out.

And I don’t want people to think I wouldn’t also do this on a 6502-based machine ;-)

100x speed because in BASIC, each generation took almost a minute. So this 126 generations was about 2 hours on a NTSC VIC-20.

And yes, this will run on an unexpanded VIC-20. Who says you can’t do amazing things with only 3583 bytes of RAM?
