A rabbit, er, dinosaur hole

I’m re-reading Jurassic Park, and there is a mention of buying 3 Cray X-MPs for genetic sequencing at InGen.

This led me down a rabbit hole in computing performance over the last 75 years, and I made myself an interactive chart of MIPS/MFLOPS(where appropriate for each).

I know, I know… some of the comparisons are not fair, but it’s still a fun thing to work on a visualization for. I’ll keep refining it.

Some modern supercomputers, like the Fugaku, are so dramatically more performant that they make a linear scale useless (I toggle it near the end, and it’s WAAAAY off the top of the chart).
